Bhutan Cultural Tour with Bumthang trek is exploring the main cities of Bhutan and a short trek to the lovely Bumthang valley as suggested in the title.
the trails to Bhumthang valley is extensive long but somewhat demanding; nonetheless – you’ re rewarded trekking through the pristine nature, isolated trails sideways, views of the snowcapped Himalayas, emerald green valleys, and crystal lakes. Your paths lead you through hilly fields of rhododendron forests plus you even get to observe various types of flora and faunas. Here we trek three days to relatively low altitude maximum of 3,400 meters and 11,156 feet. Overall, this cultural trekking takes you all the way to the mysterious Himalayan kingdom through the isolated villages and unique ancient heritage sites.
This 12 days package begins with sightseeing Paro valley. For three days, we will be trekking to Bhumthang valley and also be hiking to the Tiger Nest Monastery. (Taktsang monastery), visit other several monasteries and Dzongs, explore arts, painting schools, visit museums, zoo etc.
As for trekking, we begin from Thangbi Gomba which is close to the Thangbi village. We head through Choehkhor and Tang valley and as crossing the trails, we will be visiting several isolated Bumthang village, prehistoric holy places and even make a visit to Ugencholing village. As crossing these several villages, you get close on-hand experience with culture and lifestyle of the Bhutanese. Though the trek is relatively easy and is completed within a short period as of a day, the trails are a bit challenging for we will be ascending longer hours and gently descend from altitude ranging approximately 500 meters to 3,400 meters (Phephe La).
This 12 days in Bhutan gives you such some best memorable experience to explore the valley and get experience trekking to the stunning Bumthang valley. As for the seasons, it is perfect during the spring (March-May) and fall (September-November) with no climate issues. Detail Itinerary
Day 01: Arrival and sightseeing in Paro (2250 m & 7382 feet)
During your flight to Bhutan, we will be enjoying the views of the Himalayas including the sacred peaks Mt. Chomolhari and Mount Jichu Drake. As you land at the airport - you will be welcomed by the agent of the Accent Himalaya and then they will take us to the hotel. After the lunch, we will start our tour by visiting Ringpung Dzong which means the castle of the heap of jewels. Next, we will be visiting the ancient temple of Bhutan- Kichu Lhangkhang after that we will be visiting the Drugyal Dzong the victory fort constructed in 1646. If there is clear whether we will get to observe the 2nd highest peaks named mount Chomohari which is at 7314 meters. We will spend our night in Paro.
Day 02: Paro to Thimphu (2,320m/7,610ft): 54 km, 1 hour, hike to Taktsang Monastery
Today we will hike to the recognized monastery of Bhutan named Taktsang monastery we will be at least hiking for 4-5 hours. This monastery in English known as Tiger nest monastery which is situated at the high cliff at 3,180m. We will be having our lunch at the cafeteria restaurants which is situated on intermediate up to the mountain. After that we will retrace back down to the valley. In the afternoon we will drive to Thimpu. We will spend our night in Thimpu.
Day 03: Sightseeing in Thimphu
Early morning we will be sightseeing Thimpu where we will first explore the memorial chorten then mini zoo next we will visit traditional medicine institute, painting school, heritage museum, paper factory and the Tashicho dzong. As most of the landmarks are usually closed on Saturday and Sunday as if we reach during the weekends then we will explore the weekend market of Thimpu. We will spend our night in Thimpu.
Day 04: Thimphu to Punakha (1,250m/4,100ft): 76 km, 2 - 3 hours
Today we take a scenic drive to Punakha and stop for while at Dochu la pass at 3,100 meter and if the weather is clear we will get remarkable view of the Himalayas. After that we will drive down hill via rhododendron, hemlock and fir forests. Then we will be passing the rice fields alongside the river bank and finally we will reach at Punakha. Then we will be having our lunch and next we will be visiting the punakha Dzong. We will spend our night in Punakha.
Day 05: Punakha to Bumthang (2,850m/9,350ft): 214 km, 7 hours
After the breakfast our driver will drive us to the cultural heartland of Bhutan- Bhumthang. We will be crossing the high Pele la pass at 3300 meter. As on the trial we might also get to spot yaks. We will be stopping for a lunch in Trongsa and here we will be visiting the Trongsa Dzong. After that we will carry on our drive to Bhumthang via dense hilly forests. On the way we will be stopping at textile factory and observe the weavers designing different textiles. We will spend our night in Bhumthang.
Day 06: Trek to NgangLhakhang (2,895m/9,500ft):10Km, 2 - 3 hours, Trek begins
Today we will began our trek where we will be starting from the Thangbi Gomba by following the Chamkhar Chu- River identified as trout fish. After an hour of trekking we will be passing the Zangling lhankhang- temple and here we will stop for a lunch. After that we will be entering the Ngang Yul means the land of the swan and the center Ngang lhangkhang-temple is situated. As earlier this land was occupied by lots of swans so, this land is called as Ngang Yul which means the land of swan. We will be setting our camp at the altitude of 2,900 meter.
Day 07: Trek to UgyenCholing (2,895m/9,500ft):18Km, 6 - 7 hours
Today we will begin our trek ascending the Phephe la pass which is at 3360 meter which will be the highest spot of the trek path. We will continue our trek through dense forests enjoying the nature. After that we will descend down to the Tang valley and then we will reach at Ugyen Choling village. We will be setting our camp on the side of the river at an elevation of 2760 meter.
Day 08: Trek to Jakar/Bumthang(2,745m/9,000ft): 2Km, 1.5 hrs : Trek ends
Early morning we will be hiking to the Ugen Choling palace which is the ware house where ancient artifacts are stored. After that we will wlk down hill to Kizam where we can spot our vehicles waiting for us. After that we take a drive to bhumthang and on the way we will be visiting Mebertsho lake- burning lake one of the sacred lake where many Bhutanese people visits this lake on a fortunate days. We will spend our night in Bhumthang.
Day 09: Sightseeing in Jakar/Bumthang
Today we will be visiting some of the landmarks of Bhumthang which is Jakar Dzong which is the managerial center of this valley. Next we will be visiting the Jambay Lhankhang one of the ancient monastery of Bhutan. After that we will be visiting the sacred monastery of Bhutan called kurjey Lhakhang. It is in saying that the great 8th century Tibetan spiritual master Guru Rimpoche had left some mark of his body in this cave while meditating. Next we will be visiting the Tamshing Lhangkhang and in this temple you will get to observe unique Buddhist paintings. We will spend our night in Bhumthang.
Day 10: Bumthang to Wangdue (1,240m/4,068ft): 197 km, 6 hours
Today we will be exploring the Bhumthang market and take a drive to Wangdue – classic town of Bhutanese and here you can visit the impressive Dzong hovering on the ridge on the curve of the river. Some of the other village which is close to wangdue village is well known for their stone carving. We will spend our night in Wangdue.
Day 11: Wangdue to Paro: 124 km, 3 - 4 hours
Today early morning we will retrace back to paro through Dochu la Pass. We will stop on the way where we will be visiting a fertility temple called Chimi Lhangkhang. We will be having our lunch at Dochu la pass and here we will be visiting the Druk wangyal monastery and in this monastery there is an intricate painting portraying the ancestry of the current monarchy and their works. After that we will continue our drive to Paro. In the evening we will be exploring the paro town. We will spend our night in paro.
Day 12: Final Departure
Your journey cultural tour in Bhutan with three days Bhumthang trek comes to an end. After the breakfast our representative will drop you at the airport three hours earlier than your flight schedule. As the Druk air head off in the morning to evade the unfavorable climatic conditions.
