Tiji festival in Mustang
“Tenji festival” typically pronounced as ‘Tiji festival’ is abridged form TempaChhirim which translates to prayer for world peace. The word ‘Tiji’ is derived from the word ‘Ten Che’ means the hope of the Buddhism dominant in all words. Tiji is celebrated for three days as known as ‘the chasing of the Demons’ that base on mythical myths. As the voice of legends the deity named Dorje Jon, fought against his demon father to protect the entire Mustang Kingdom from destruction. The demon wreaked disaster on Mustang by making water scarcity, extremely valuable resources for human beings and for also entire earth beings, that’s why the Mustang’s most land is still unplanted, barren and dried by effects of water scarcity. The deity Dorje Jono ultimately fought against his Demon Father Man Tam Ru and saved the lives of entire Lo kingdom - today is known as the Mustang Kingdom, Tibetan settlements still having the culture and languages of Tibetans.
Tiji is celebrated in the middle of the month of May and lasts for three days. It will at the season of starting of spring and end of winter. Mustangi people celebrate the festival with great enjoyment and entertainment. People dance their traditional dancing style and sing the spiritual lyrics. They pray the Lord Buddha for peace in the world and also the Dorjejono as the incarnation of Lord Buddha. People from Mustang are from old Buddhism religion.
