Overview
Nirekha Peak (6195 m, 20206 ft) is one of the recently opened expeditions in the Khumbu region very close to the Cho La Pass. This peak is kind of hidden in the laps of well-known peaks like Everest (8848 m), Cholatse (6440 m) and Cho Oyu (8201 m). There is a couple of ways to summit on this Nirekha Peak - north and south. We prefer from the north side to south but nevertheless, both ways to the summit reward the identical astounding mountainous views. Being physically and mentally fit, prior experience of mountain climbing can help successful ascending this peak.
The first ascends to this peak was done in April 2003 by Matt Florets and Greg Valentine. From the summit of the peak, you will be mesmerized with different mountainous views of Everest and other peaks like Nuptse (7861 m), Lhotse (8516 m), Lhotse Shar (8516 m), Ama Dablam (6812 m), Makalu (8485 m), Cho Oyu (8188 m), Baruntse (7129 m) etc.
This expedition begins from the picturesque flight to Lukla and from there we carry out a short hike to Phakding. The next day, our trek begins crossing through beautiful pine forest following the Dudh Koshi River and as continuing trekking through diverse forests - pine, juniper, and fir - we reach Namche Bazaar. The next day we will be completely acclimatizing and visiting some of the monasteries, and the Edmund Hillary School.
Further continuing our trekking for few days and crossing some of the places like Tengboche and Dingboche; we reach Dingboche where we will be acclimatizing as it is an ideal place to adjust the altitude. Next, we head to Lobuche and then trek to Gorakshep and visit the Everest Base Camp. From EBC, we are headed to a vintage spot of Everest region i.e. Kalapathar. From here we will enjoy the closest perception of the Everest. Further trekking we will arrive at the base camp passing via Cho La pass. Here we will be preparing for our summit and then next we will trek to the Nirekha High Camp. And next, we will ascend the Nirekha Peak. After our successful completion, we will retrace back to High Camp and then head to Gokyo Lake, then to Machermo, back to Namche and further trek to Lukla and finally fly back to Kathmandu.
Spring (April-May) and autumn (September-November) are the best seasons to endeavor this expedition as on spring - on the trails - you get to observe the various floras throughout your trek and in autumn - the temperature will be moderate with clearer sky where you get to spot the beautiful different mountains clearly.
